Screwattack review proven WRONG.
Gamejew, one of Screwattack's contributors, said in a recent VC review that "Shining Force" wasn't worth $5 (despite the fact that people on Ebay are paying an average of $30 for the cart).
Hmm take a look at this article from Joystiq...
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/09/wiis-most-popular-vc-games/
TOP TEN.
The game YOU said wasn't worth $5 made it to the TOP FREAKING TEN most popular VC games.
This proves that Screwattack can no longer be considered a gamer website, it's just a damn entertainment site.
You can go there and enjoy some decent videos made by NES fanboys with ADD who can't enjoy Strategy RPG games because they don't have the attention span to handle them.
But a gaming site? No way... The true gamers who put Shining Force in the top ten have spoken.
Huh...self professed "Gamers" allow something like that to be featured....wow.
If you want some cool videos go to the Dreamcast Junkyard and watch some of Gagaman(n)'s stuff.

Chocolate Rain Tay get owned.
This will not be funny unless you have watched chocolate rain on Youtube.
Taking different media clips and just making them into something WRONG.
Oh man Tay got so owned by this dude.
Tip of the hat goes to this video.
Made me freaking laugh my ass off. I dunno if it was because I had seen this commerical as a kid or what. Win.

Screwattack sorta pissing me off.
It's a site that has entertaining videos that mostly have to do with video games.
However, lately some of the material being provided by the website has been sub-par when it comes to true gaming.
Take for example Gamejew's latest set of videos.
He said that since Shining Force for the VC is a RPG he cannot play it and the game is not worth the 5 dollars it costs to download it. First off Shining Force is a hybrid of turned based Strategy with RPG elements. To call a game like that a simple RPG is like calling Chess a RPG.
Second, Ebay is selling orginal carts for about $30.
So how does that reflect on Screwattack? They have a video saying that $5 is too much to spend on a game that people are still spending $30 for? WTF?
This comes after the Angry Nintendo nerd was bagging on the Sega CD and 32X and complaining about adventure games. The two games he complained about weren't bad games because of their flaws. They were bad games because he didn't like the genre. Since he personally doesn't like adventure games those games suck. Basically that complete bullshit.
They are obvouly trying to play up the younger/stupider crowd who cannot appreciate older games and must have their button mashing fast paced gameplay.
Do we really want to return back to a time before FF7 finally opened up the mainstream to RPGs? If the
Plus there is also an ANTI-SEGA vibe to this whole scene.
Angry video game nerd should change his name back to the Angry Nintendo Nerd. When he was making fun of 8 Bit NES games he never said the actual system sucked just because some of the games sucked. However he did say that the Sega-CD and 32X sucked because he only had some bad games. And that Goddam Sega VS Nintendo video shit? WTF? He said the Dreamcast was "kina fun" ... he is no gamer.
And well...just look at Gamejew and you know where his loyalities lie.
Cheap games alert - New Kmart price drops.
Rouge Galaxy a nice looking RPG going for $19.99. Gamestop still selling it for $39.99.
Digesaga 2 $25.00
Dance Factory - $19.99
Tales of Legendia (PS2) $ 15.00
Narnia GC $14.00
Hitman Blood money - $15.00 (10.50 if you go during a 30% off day)
and more.
These games were not all priced when I got there so you might want to get them priced checked like I did before you buy to see how cheap they are in the system.
Plus these clearance games will only go down in price as the summer ends so it might pay to see how low these games are gonna go.
In the past I have gotten Eyetoy fitness with eyetoy for $5 and Indigo Prophecy for $4. So keep your eye on the local Kmart and remember that the employees sometimes do not have the current prices marked.

Oh the pain...
In an impressive “fake out” someone released a huge list of beautiful lies. Beautiful beautiful lies…
My only hope is that this display of the average Sega fan’s ability to create hope and then have that hope dramatically ground into the dirt will show that Sega can indeed create a console that can be powered by sadness and longing…so much sadness and longing…
More morons jump on the bandwagon
This is just two morons that are really being fake in their enthusiasm and they are obviously trying so hard to be cool.
Let me tell you. These little kids are dumbasses. They add nothing new to the "whole smashing old electronics" genre videos. Nothing.
I really think that this enforces the fact that the Dreamcast is cool. Because these kids are f'ing stupid. So naturally what they would choose to destroy would be something awesome. They probably have a PS3 and tell everyone how cool it is (even though it has no good games yet).
I do not understand this new wave of people that think that they are gonna make a decent media project when they have no editing skills and no talent or original ideas. WTF.
If you are doing a video project that you really think is great and/or you are having a fun time doing it then that's a different matter. If you are being fake and your end goal is having OTHER people vote for your video then you are doing the media project for all the wrong reasons.
I have no problem with amatures doing videos that suck as long as those people didn't make those videos for the sole purpose of winning some media popularity contest.
The kids in this video did not want to smash their Dreamcast. They wanted other people to think they were cool. Smashing the Dreamcast was only a means to that end. Thus, in the end the video is worthless (except to prove my points about videos like this).
We have alot of professional people doing this already. More than 75% of all media in this country is being produced by people who only care about the bottom line. We do not need more people adding to this. The media itself should be the reason to help create it.
Lame little unoriginal Gen Y losers. They only prove how cool the Dreamcast really is.

Pissed at Penny Arcade.
They did this comic
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/08/03
Buncha bull. Librarianship was a MALE dominated field until recently. This whole bullshit idea that Librarians were always female is bullshit.
For shits sake Women haven't even been allowed to read until recently.
F-you Penny arcade for encouraging the female librarian stereotype...
Moron breaks a hammer trying to break a Dreamcast
Not original enough to be good. Only good shot was the throw off the roof. Should have gotten a second camera for another angle.
A damn shame to waste those games. What bullshit.
I am confident that anyone that would try to use a wooden handled hammer like that will eventually seriously hurt themselves. So karma will deal with those that disrespect the Dreamcast.
All hail the undead console.

Racism in RE5???? WTF?
Some of the people commenting on the video said it was racist. Holy. Crap.
They were saying it was white people being racist against black people... Holy Shit.
(Don't they realise these games are made by Japanese people?)
I didn't think that any actual organizations were gonna touch this. Then I read this artiele.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/zombie-racism/black-looks-on-re-5-racism-284725.php
Wow...So RE5 is meant to enforce racial hate of black people. And it's being marketed to kids...
I can't get this...
RE is a series of games that has zombies in it. You have zombies that are mostly white in the begining games and zombies that are all spainish in the fourth game...
I have played the RE series. To this date I have killed zombies of all races. Play the games again and you will see that in RE3 and RE CV you kill zombies of different races.
Yet you put a player in a "realistic" setting where zombie outbreak has occured in an African setting and people cry racism...
The people in Africa are mostly black. Thus the zombies would be black.
...The main character isn't white because he is fighting blacks and the people making the game are racist. The main character is white because BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN WHITE SINCE 1998...
People need to stop this bullshit.
All races are equally filled with useless assholes. Society should be trying to solve real problems not arguing over stupid shit like this.
Nobody is going to solve any problems by complaining about black zombies in the game set in Africa.
Is emulation really a crime? Final Fantasy example.
But I did get a lovely copy of Final Fantasy 3 (FF6 in Japan). What a kick ass 32 bit game!
This leads to me ask the question, is emulation really wrong?
Way back in 2000 "This guy I know" played this game through a emulator once.
It really made me want to play the game and get more Final Fantasy products.
To this date I have bought FF 1+2, 4 and5 NEW for the GBA. FF 7, 8, 9 X, X2, FF Tactics FF crystal Chronicals and XII for the Playstation 1 and 2 and Gamecube. Eventually when I find one for a decent price I am gonna get a DS and Final Fantasy 3. And even though I have FF6 for my SNES I am probably gonna buy the PS versions and the GBA version.
I actually bought most of this stuff new from actual retailers. I did this because I liked the games so much. When I really like games I try to buy new copies.
...So because "This guy I know" emulated a Final Fantasy game that was from 1994 in 2000 I bought all these games...
So how the hell can it be considered a crime to try out older games?
Because "This guy I know" tried out a game that was 6 years old I have bought almost ALL the Final Fantasy games out there in recent years.
It's total bull to consider it stealing if the game is no longer in stores or easily available in some offline form. Crap like PSO Blue Burst or Gametap requires you to have computers and internet connections to play games that used to be on consoles...what if you do not have that stuff?
Fans of the games WILL buy remakes even if they already have the game. So that's not an arguement. They are STILL SELLING Final Fantasy One for shits sake...
I think that the shareware system somewhat worked. It's too bad that nowadays it's way too difficult to get decent demos because of the size of files...
In any case the gaming industry shouldn't be pricks about people wanting play older games.

Despair and hope...
My computer can't even burn a playble copy so that means the disk is toasted.
Not too bad though since I CAN get my money back and get something else from the store I bought it from. Hmm. Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES (FF6 in Japan) comes to mind. That might be a good buy.
There was really nothing else there. I will ask to see if they happen to have another copy of Dragon Force lying around. It's such a dirtbag store.
If nothing else the whole Dragon Force thing made me modify my Saturn for the disk swap which is cool...
...but I still gotta go back there and the F'ING MORON wrote down "Sega CD" for the game. How the f'ing hell am I gonna return this item for a handwritten reciept that says the wrong thing. I hate it when people hire stupid people that don't know anything about video games to work in places that sell video games. There are just some jobs that require you to have something in your skull besides shit.
*wink* but guess what I found on their discount shelf for $1? FF7. Oh yeah. No case but still all the disks seem to boot and I loaded all my saves on the fist two disks. How out of freaking wack are these guys? They have WORTHLESS N64 games for like $20 but are selling stuff like FF7 for a buck? WTF?
Anywho I have also gotten some really good Dreamcast stuff from Gamestop...see the article about it on the Dreamcast Junkyard.

Oh man....
Brutal.
To top it off I had to get the car inspected and OF COURSE they found something wrong. They didn't charge me for installation or labor though because they forgot about my car and had me waiting for 2 and a half hours for a f'ing 10 minute job...and of course now I worry that they rushed that....I HATE MECHANICS. It's not my problem that I never got into that stuff or learned much more than the basics. Now I know alot I can fix most small car problems but shit man, cars today are TOO DAMNED complex. Yeah and it's not like I wasn't busy learning other stuff. I can fix most electrical thingies. Anyways I bet that damned secondary engine belt wasn't really cracked. I mean it might have had the general impression of "crackishness" when held a certain light. It's all a scam.
And my finaces got a bit screwed up as well... suckage.
Anyways I got some good Dreamcast stuff that I am gonna an article about in the Junkyard.
Ditto with some Saturn stuff. - Including a copy of Dragon Force which refuses to run! Gonna pull out all the stops on this one.
Yeah.
On the news today there was an odd story. There is a cat the predicts when people die...or he
KILLS people with his mental feline powers. Either way I don't want him to snuggle up to me.

DDR? Oh yeah.
After looking at the bare electronics section (I found a copy of Flashback for the Genesis last week) I gave up and headed for the exit.
Then on a whim I walked over to the sports department. Strangely enough there were TWO Dance Dance Revolution pads (Multi-plug for PS2, Xbox and Gamecube) just sitting there. They were not first party though, one is Mad Catz, the other is Interact brand.
I have NO idea why they would put these in the sports dept. I suppose the people in charge of putting away stuff had no idea what they were.
Anyways there were no prices on them. Anyways I took them to the front of the store and when through my usual spiel in order to get the best price. Then I asked the woman how much and she said 4 dollars each. HOLY CRAP!
I looked in my wallet and realized I didn't have enough cash (and they don't take cards since they can't afford it. I asked the woman to hold them while I went to the bank.
So then she just says she will sell them for $2 each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No Crap! These things do go for like $20 new! And these looked to be in excellent condition!
Anyways I took them home and found out they worked but was depressed when I found my copy of DDR Extreme 2 had somehow broke....lame. It warped somehow and I didn't remember if I ever tried it out after I had bought it. Sucks.
I got a copy of DDR Extreme from a store for $15. Gamestop sells it used for $34 so I felt that was a pretty good price.
Anyway, both pads seem to work fine with my PS2. The mad catz one feels better but both are pretty responsive.
And for exercising this was way cooler than the fitness program for Eyetoy. (DDR Extreme uses eyetoy as well).
I also was in Blockbuster and found some decent PS2 games for sale. They are having a buy one get one free sale.
I got:
Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly
Shadow hearts
Dragongard 2
Ark the Lad
For the kickass total price of $24.
Fatal Frame 2 and Shadowrun are the real gems of this purchase. Both of these games go for $34.99 at Gamestop nowadays.
I only played Fatal Frame 2 for alittle bit but it seemed really surreal. Nice atmostsphere. For people that liked Silent Hill I suggest you get this.
Shadowhearts seems to be an interesting RPG I have never heard of before. It's one of those many PS2 games that most people gave a pretty high rating 7.9 8.0 ect while other rabid fans proclaimed it "teh best game eva". Worth the purchase price since Gamestop sells used copies for so much money (34.99 WTF?) I like the spin of having an RPG set in old school 1900 with old trains and WW1 rifles yet at the same time having demons with sickles cutting the shit outta everyone.
Drakengard 2 seems fun and Arc the Lad seems OK as well.
And for Retro news I got some decent Genesis games Flashback, Phantasy Star 2 and Vectorman (Vectorman is unopened in box!!!!!).
I also got another copy of Capcom VS SNK and Plasma Sword for my Dreamcast.
Overall an excellent month.
However that guy who was selling the Dreamcast lightguns that look like actual guns has not gotten back to me yet. He was selling games like Shining Force CD for like $5 (sells on ebay of over $80) He had sold out of most of his stuff. I hope I get those lightguns....

SNL remakes.
People on Youtube take ideas from the show and remake them. Over and over again.
They take the idea AND DON'T EVEN CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
They basically just re-shoot it or just do some basic editing on it using clips from other shows.
Where was I when everyone got so fucking lame?
My college TV show was never very popular but it had it's fans because it was VERY original.
We were doing cool little skits (and I continue to do cool little skits) based on our own ideas.
How the hell can anyone justify ripping someone else's ideas and call it a parody?
The worst example is the SNL skit where they make fun of the TV show The OC. People remade that skit and called it a parody...
...You can't do a word for word parody of a parody...
IT'S NOT A PARODY IT'S JUST BEING LAME AND STEALING SOMEONE ELSE'S IDEAS AND PUTTING YOUR NAME ON IT!
...sigh...
And there are HUNDREDS of these. I dunno I guess with the ease of digital media will come an increased amount of lame people stealing shit and calling it original. And nobody calls them on it. I would rather watch a halfway funny ORIGINAL IDEA than watch re-hash after re-hash.
We really need to get a truly original skit comedy show out there to show people how funny skit comedy can really be...
That's why I feel bad that the Lonely Island guys never were able to do their own show.

I gots no internets.
My computer meets the requirements for Bioshock. My cool ass video card actually goes past the min requirements.
However, I can't play the game.
Why?
The same reason why I can't play Half Life 2 (even though I loved that series) I have no internet at home. Both Bioshock and Half Life 2 require you to register them online.
During my grad studies getting my MLS I learned a bit more about the digital divide and how the "haves" and the "have nots" gap is being widened by technology.
But thats such BS in this case. There is NO REASON for games to require you to go online to register.
I have Internet access at work. I CAN'T get internet access at my home. Not anything that I could afford anyway or even work correctly since I live in the sticks.
DO game companies think that EVERY gamer has internet access for SP games?
It's such bullshit.
Instead of improving the tech and make it so people can't copy games they make gamers jump through hoops to play.
Not to mention the fact that if they make good quality games enough people will want to buy the ACTUAL game instead of using a crappy copy!
I know that game producers need to save money and all but to asssume that all PC gamers have internet access is utter BS.
If I can't be sure that I can install a game why the hell would I waste my money on it?
There are ALOT of people like me out there who just can't use internet at home for various reasons. If the PC game corporations want to ignore us to save alittle money in the short run I think they are gonna loose alot of business to consoles.

The video that did not make it on to the Junkyard.
The final "product" was too long, too dark, lacked the snappy editing I like and was just horrible. It was in no way redeemable in my eyes. I could have re-edited but the raw material was just too crappy.
I am gonna post it here but I really need to get more quality stuff in if I want to get any videos on the Junkyard.

Seven Mansions
I guess it shows that the game can be subtitled in English. It looks pretty cool. I would rather have Segagaga translated though. There is a team working on that one.
Intro to the Game:
Video that seems to show translation:
Dreamcast 2 in 2009.
"Dreamcast II with 3D glasses and R.O.B. support for a 2009 release?"
http://kotaku.com/gaming/always-bet-on-black/the-e3-2007-kotaku-fantasy-betting-pool-275056.php
I am sure the 3D glasses thing was just a joke. But it's out there now in writing. There WILL be a Dreamcast 2!
Boy I can't wait for the 2009!

I didn't agree with his choices but overall the concept was cool.
Is this something that is good enough for the Dreamcast Junkyard?

Dreamcast Summer Games still somewhat alive!

So it seems like nobody could get behind the idea of the Dreamcast Games. Hardly anyone wanted to give simple ideas, rather they pestered me for insane ideas and some even asked I upload illegal copies for them to play (not gonna happen). Plus I got a really good second job in real life and have been working like a dog 60+ hours a week.
However I will still take scores on pretty much ANYTHING and post them here...
Anyways here are a few ideas to try out!
-Best progression in a game with only 1 life no continues. (HoD2, Soul Calibur ect.)
-Best item gained by in PSO with a new character for 30 mins of play. (Offline mode ONLY).
-Most creative use of a controller in game. (Use of fishing rod, wheel ect.)
-Most creative use of a non-working Dreamcast or accessory.
-Highest score on hardest difficulty level. (Duh.)
-Fastest timed round gameplay (any)
-Furthest progression in Survial Horror Genre game only using basic melee weapon (i.e. knife in RE series) and NO HEALING items.
I still will take your unique ideas though and post them here! Maybe someone will want to challenge you before the week is over.
Please comment here or email your scores to dreamcastguy@hotmail.com
Whoot!
SEGA Game Gear is PSAs
I saw a PSA featuring characters from Shrek telling a kid who was playing a Game Gear to go outside and play...
I saw this 2 MONTHS ago. I never blogged it because I was lazy.
Then Kotaku runs an article about this last Monday.
I guess when you see this stuff you had better blog it right then and there...
Anyways I guess they couldn't use a current handheld game console since Shrek has games on all those. And they couldn't use an old Gameboy since Nintendo is supporting the new Shrek games...
Anways that kid was probably having a great time with that Game Gear. It's too bad that video games don't really make kids violent...then he could beat the shit outta that stupid computer animated donkey.

Nintendo not tired of ripping off Sega yet.

The Lonely Island
Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg.
The Kablamo Video.
Now that they got onto SNL they got a chance to make a movie. It looks like it could really kick ass.
I wish they would have stayed in skit comedy though. I really think they could create another really awesome skit comedy show like The State. Instead I think that working with SNL has been slowing them down. Their own pilots are alot better than the stuff on SNL. Plus half the stuff they do doesn't even go on air, it just goes on the website as "digital shorts". What's interesting is that the "digital shorts" that do go on air is the BEST stuff on Saturday Night Live.
It's a shame that cool skits like "lazer cats" (lazer cats 2 link) are website only. Those are really solid skits that should be on the damn show. But I guess the mainstream likes crap over quality skit comedy.
Which brings us again to the movie. I think that this will be a project that will allow them to keep their own ideas unaltered and fresh. But the fact remains that they do their best work with shorter material.
It will be interesting to see if they can make this movie work. From the preview you can tell that it's gonna have some good spots.

Kick ass House of the Dead Item Guide.
Of course the items you get will not be the same. For example I have gotten different items like Rotten meat in the well on the first level with my Dreamcast disk. So the items are random. But harder saves (like saving the old man and woman in act 2) result in better items like the shotgun! So experiment.
But this video is SO kick asss.
I liked the the music.

New Dreamcast Game???
You can visit the game creators site to vote to have the game, Raiden IV, put on the undead console...
The game is yet another lovely looking shooter.
http://www.seganerds.com/2007/06/12/could-we-receive-yet-another-new-dreamcast-game/
Oh yes.
Sega you tried to pull the plug.
The gamers tried to kill you.
But it matters not...
The Undead Console Lives On...FOREVER.

Another Dreamcast video. NGE Rei Ayanami wtf?!!?
This is a Japanese release Dreamcast game about one of the female characters from Neo Genesis Evangelion. I guess it's one of those dating sim type games. I never understood why anyone would want to play games like that, but hey, different cultures and all. As shown in the video it came with it's own mouse and mousepad with an underage girl in a swimsuit on it...
(I am guessing that there was probably more than one Dreamcast mousepad with an underage girl in a swimsuit on it released in Japan, but this is the only one I have heard of)
Sonic just stands there...and watches you golf...
That's all he does...Just watches you golf...
And then he runs...and watches the ball go into the hole...
Sega...why?
Monday, June 04, 2007
Still busy.
So yeah. Still have not edited that video yet. However, I did not get a day off yet...and my downtime while not at work was somewhat stressful...
While taking a quick search at Youtube for Dreamcast vids I saw this:
At least he explained that Tony Hawk's 2 was the sequel to Tony Hawk's PS...I was really confused about that...
This has GOT to be one of the worst video blogs ever...The dude is looking away from the camera the whole damn time. He doesn't really "rant" or do anything interesting...and he only talks about 2 Dreamcast games. What the hell is the point???
Two of his key points that I found interesting:
"I love the Sports games" (I bet he does)
"Tony Hawk two is better because it's newer than Tony Hawk 1"
This encapsulates two of my main beliefs about gaming.
Number one: People that enjoy traditional sports games (i.e. Basketball/Football) ruin the industry.
Number two: People that think games are better just because they are newer are stupid.
So I guess this video does have a purpose. While I am sure he wanted to make a video that would show off his games and vast video game knowledge, what he really produced was concrete evidence that not all people that play Dreamcast games are cool, smart and interesting.
If I ever make a video this dull and crappy...I dunno. I just hope that never happens.
This video was almost at the point of "so bad it's good".

Captain S will save the day!
"The New Adventures of Captain S" is the online video series I have been watching lately. It's totally what I enjoy about small independent production!
If you are a Sega fan and haven't watched Captain S give it a shot. It starts slow but but keep with the episodes and you will be grateful you did...
It may only appeal to Amercians like me that had to put up with crappy shows like "Captain N" and "Saved by the Bell" in their youth, but hopefully the Sega humor will get some laughs from everyone...
http://www.pbc-productions.com/CaptainS/Episodes.html
Watch the newest "Filler Friday", it's great. Long live independent media production!!!!!

More! New! Dreamcast! Homebrew! Games!
I just posted about the point and click game “Flight of the Amazon Queen” being hosted by DC Evolution…
And now I see that there are MORE Dreamcast .cdi’s out!!!!! Check them out!
Sonic Robo Blast 2!
http://www.dcevolution.net/hosted_srb2dc.php
Sonic Robo Blast 2 is a 3D fan game built on a heavily modified Doom engine. It still has bugs but is playable. You have to have a keyboard to go into the console mode to change settings and play a bonus game.
Feet of Fury - Preview
http://www.dcevolution.net/hosted_fof.php
Just a preview, but it’s still fun. You can also get swap disks for the real game and see if your ghetto modded or self made dance pad will work with the real game by downloading a test .cdi.
Defense Commander

http://www.dcevolution.net/hosted_defense.php
This seems more of a demo than a mini game. It might be worth a CD-R to download it though. Developed by Titanium Studios to show off some of the pretty particle effects the Dreamcast could do. So yeah. It’s up to you if this is worth it or not.
So damned busy!!!!! Here are some videos.
Ah well here are some videos!
Someone must have taken some inspiration from Gagaman(n)'s "Old Hat" Video...
And someone says you can emulate a Dreamcast on the Wii...if you already have a Dreamcast...Obvious fake...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pojzpwVILe8
I dunno. With all the cool stuff you can do why the hell would you do fake videos like this? People are f'ing stupid. Then I do a REAL Soul Calibur fishing video and some people on the Dreamcast message boards think it's fake...
...Stop rewarding stupid fake videos people!
I swear they should have levels of the internet that can only be accessed by people that aren't jerkwads...

Dreamcast Rap - Mega64 new link
I personally have "like/hate" feelings for Mega64 but this one video was freaking awesome...
Submit today to the Dreamcast! Submit to the Undead Console!
...or else Dreamcast is gonna' mess your ass up...Thug life.
Dreamcast Summer Games to begin in July. Get your suggestions in now.

Well when I first started the idea of the Dreamcast Summer Games I wanted to keep everything as simple as possible.
People would suggest events, compete in the ones they had the games for and post their results which would be posted on different blogs and such.
Someone even said they would make a website but I never heard back from them so yeah. People on the Internet always say they want to make grand complicated things but then after awhile they disappear. So that’s why I wanted to keep this dead simple.
Anyone with one of the Dreamcast games associated with the challenges could simply comment their results to a blog or email their results and their info would be posted along with everyone else’s.
If people wanted to take their individual results and arrange them by Country or Teams than that’s fine.
However, A lot of people have been trying to make this more complicated than it should be.
For example a number of the challenge ideas suggested involved FULLY completing RPGs like Skies or Arcadia or Shenmue.
I had in mind more simple challenges that only took like 15-30 minutes of gameplay. Or in some cases longer.
For example - making a new player in PSO and trying to get the best item (rated by amount of mensa sold for) within 30 minutes of play. This is a challenge anyone can do and a lot of people have the game disk. Of course someone who has played PSO will have an advantage, but a new player could also do well…
However, fully playing a game through is not a challenge I wanted to make. It would take too much time and with all the game guides out there ANYONE could FULLY beat any of these games.
My vision of “The Dreamcast Summer Games” is a short series of varied challenges that ANYONE with a Dreamcast and a few games can compete in and have fun. I want to include a wide variety of games including homebrew.
I also want to point out that people can still offer up challenges by posting comments to the Hunyak blog, the Dreamcast Junkyard blog or emailing me personally at
Dreamcastguy@hotmail.com
If you want to suggest a game PLEASE suggest a simple SHORT challenge to go with it! Do not just send me a list of games that you want included.
I have NOTHING to do with piracy. Do not ask me for pirated copies of games.
The OFFCIAL start of the Dreamcast Summer games is the first week in July. Exceptions will be made.
Challenges will be posted at the end of June.
This is only the first try. So I want to keep it simple.
Thanks.

Gamestop deal has ended for people that want cash.
So you might remember that I got 30% more CASH for my games I traded in at Gamestop?
Remember when I said that the corporation would stop that soon?
Well they have already put an official end to it. Read here:
"Tiered Trade Offer 3,4,5 games for 10%,20%,30% bonus!
Trade in 3 games, get 10% extra credit, Trade in 4 games, get 20% extra credit, Trade in 5 or more games, get 30% extra trade-in credit!
Expires: 05/27/07. Offer not good on cash trades. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Offer good towards games only. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associate for details. No dealers."
What a f'ing rip...
I totally called that. I knew that you were not going to get the cash deal for long before the corporate jerks got their due.
You still might have a chance of getting more cash money from your local store but with that paragraph I am sure they are cracking down...how lame.
I hate it when I call shit like that. Being right sucks when you are being pessimistic.

Another wistful Dreamcast video tribute
A little better editing with the music would have been nice. Even with Movie Maker you can edit the sound cuts. Still a nice video that features the "Hello Kitty" Dreamcast and the Dreamcast fishing rod/Soul Calibur controller.
Never fear! For the Dreamcast is not dead! It is UNDEAD...
And one more soul has submitted to the undead console.

No new Videos! -random ramble.
However, stuff has been hectic at work and getting a new part time job to go along with my low paying full time job.
It's too bad I had to shave my goatee just for a part time job but it's like $20 and hour...
So yeah. I will sacrifice my facial hair for more money to buy video games.
Speaking of video games I was playing the original "Beats of Rage" for the first time the other night and it was pretty fun. The zombie level in Battletoads Beats of Rage is still my favorite though. It's fun to play the original games after trying out the homebrew.
I got a MINT copy of Final fight for the Sega CD and it acutally seems "Arcade Perfect" at least to my fuzzy memories of playing the actual arcade game in the laundry mat in college.
Ug? I dunno. I am tired as hell and I drank a protein drink, ate a nutritious "Body for Life" bar and I still want to eat REAL FOOD...I bought a bunch of healthy stuff for EXTREMELY cheap prices but it all tastes like crap. When I swam in college I used this stuff and it didn't seem this horrid. I guess thats why it was on sale.

A ton of new Stuff to go over.

Why idiots shouldn't make videos about the dreamcast.
$10!!!!!! At a fucking fleamarket? Where the fuck do you live? Somewhere where people are STUPID enough to believe that the PS3 is great since it is priced so fucking high????
Thats not even the point, you can get ANYTHING at a fleamarket for $10. Thats the whole point of going to the damn flea market. I got a top loading 1st party NES for $10 for cripes sakes!
If you go on ebay Dreamcasts sell for like $20. I saw one at a used video game store opened for $70. I have never seen one for $10.
A goddamn DVD player is like $25 NEW today. Back in 2000 it was like $200 for the same model. How much was a fucking VHS in 2000? Like $75?
Try to fucking buy a decent Dreamcast GAME for $10 asswipe. Try to buy a copy of Marvel vs Capcom! Try buying Powerstone 2 or Project Justice!!!!!! Then fucking tell me that the value has gone down...
Dreamcast prices online are going up. Dreamcast prices in used stores are going up.
As people get LET DOWN by the games on new gen systems prices for pretty much ANYTHING retro will go up.
Just because you saw a Dreamcast (working? clean? With controllers?) for $10 at a fleamarket (which I am not sure he did) does not mean that the Dreamcast is not an awesome system. Take five fucking seconds to check ebay before you decide that a Dreamcast is worth $10.
Morons like this should not be allowed to use cameras and Youtube.
People for the love of all thats holy and good STOP MAKING A BAD NAME FOR AMERICA BY DOING SHIT LIKE THIS! YOU HAVE NOTHING VALUABLE TO ADD TO SOCIETY. IGNORANT PRICKS!
At least when I make a video I am being an idiot ON PURPOSE.
-People please do not associate me with people like this just because I live in America. America is a big place and it seems to have alot of stupid redneck crackers in in. I myself am a stupid hick but I do not pretend to be anything else and talk about stuff I know nothing about.
-And I hate the fact that technology has gotten spread in such a manner that some piece of white trash like this can make a shitty Youtube video on a topic he knows nothing about. Where the hell are the flying cars people! It's 2007!
Dreamcast Manuals. Get 'em while you can.
HERE
If you happen to need the manuals for Phantasy Star or Samba de Amigo, Jet Grind Radio or some other game go there and download while you still can. They are on the two lists at the bottom. Some of them are more complete than others but if you are in need you can at least get SOMETHING.
I just downloaded a Bomberman Online manual that I needed for my rental copy I picked up a few months ago.
Random post - Ultima Series PC.
The Ultima series on the PC was one of my favs.
However Ultima 6 had a couple of quest that I could never finish. They were a murder mystery and helping a deaf guy regain his hearing. It turns out BOTH quests CANNOT be solved in the game at all. It was just an error in the final program that the conversations for these quests were still included in the final game...
WTF!!!
Some dude who is actually more obsessed than me actually put up his own ideas on what happened with the murder mystery. I personally think the fisherman did it.
As for Ultima 7 I had an awesome time beating the first installment of the game and using Exult I hope to finally finish it.
And Balin from the Ultima series was truly a nutcake. I always thought he was just an asshole but from the Wikipedia article it turns out he was truly insane. If you kill everyone in the world using a spell (which you can do in some Ultima games) he will inform you that he is the ultimate Nihilist and actually congratulates you for killing everyone in the world...wow. I do not feel so bad about hunting that guy down in the game now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batlin_(Ultima)
Dreamcast still beating out other consoles in the hearts and minds of gamers.

Kotaku ran this story featuring a magazine dealing with video game art.
The picture that accompanied the article was from Jet Set (grind) Radio.
A someone commented that the Jet Grind version on the Dreamcast was better "in every SINGLE way" than Jet Set.
Oh only the foolish that think they can deny the undead console it's due...
Oh and THIS rather sad article written in 2000 says that the Dreamcast will win the console wars...oh Sega...why did you think the Dreamcast would ever lose...
...but in the end it has won.
...submit to the undead console.

My SMS collection so far.
...but I do actually have the hardware for when I want to get truly retro! The real tragedy is that the two controllers I got with this system never worked right. One of them barely works at all. Normally I can get controllers to work easily but nothing I did would work to fix these. The only other thing I could have tried was to re-solder them but my soldering iron is not with me and I cannot find it.
Therefore I use the regular Genesis controller you see above you. These work just fine in the SMS with no ill effects to the console. The third button doesn't work but that is a small price to pay.
Last but not least my cover-less cart of Space Harrier. A very nice game for a bit of meaningless blasting fun!
Overall I am happy with my collection and I really am not on the lookout for anything else (unless it's super cheap).
More media projects next week!
Some Dreamcast Games I will not review. Star Wars Ep 1. Jedi Powers
...but now I am not. So here is a half assed review. It's not that it's a bad game...it's just seems stale to me.
Gamespot actually did a good job by describing this as a standard action game, with no real action...
Gamespot Review.
If you are a fan of Star Wars you might enjoy this more. I liked the movies, but I am not really a fan fan if you catch my drift.
Combat is fun, then gets repetitive. Use force powers. Jump around. Slash with your lightsaber. Controls are not the best. That's about it. It sticks to the movie so there are no real surprises in the plot.
My final say:
Buy it for $2-$4 American depending on condition. ONLY if you are a collector. Or you love beat-em-up actions titles. Or if you really really liked Starwars episode 1.

Work work work...(warcraft quote)
In addition real work at the TV station has been busy as of late since we are switching over our news networking service to ENPS ( a system that created for the BBC *big ups to the UK*). So I have been busy with that as well.
I am working on a cool new project for Dreamcast fans as well as the Dreamcast Summer Games. Coming up with challenges for the Dreamcast system is tough. However I think this will be fun for anyone that wants to give it a shot.
I am a bit annoyed at the people that keep suggesting that I upload rips of the games for people to use who do not have them. If you are a Dreamcast fan it isn't impossible to get the common games. So too bad if this is cutting people off, but this is kinda a competition for people that have been into the Dreamcast for a bit...so if you don't have ANY of the games the challenges are based on then you are S.O.L. I plan to have enough challenges so that if you have a Dreamcast and a couple of games, chances are you can be included in one of them.
Anyways back to the new Saturn games...I got a bunch and they include "Sonic Blast" and "Mechwarrior 2" among others. Expect some more reviews over at the Saturn Junkyard soon.
A quick note for those of you in need of cash or trade in
I needed some cash so I was getting rid of some extra games I had for the PS2 and Gamecube. Nothing good mind you. Just stuff that I picked up for like $2.00 at garage sales or games that I beat to death (like DarkWatch - holy crap what a ripoff. I beat that ENTIRE game TWICE in one weekend. Get Painkiller for the PC if you want a game like that.)
Anyways I was SHOCKED to see a rather hefty sum of money added up after I traded in my trash! MUCH more than I expected.
The cashier was confused as well and added up again. Then she called over the manager.
It turns out there is a special on right now (at least in the Gamestop stores in NY) where if you trade in 5 used games you get 30% more cash.
For games that I got for $2.00 getting $5.75-8.90 back for them was a GOOD deal!
So any ways nobody in the store seemed to know anything about the game deal going on...
It might behoove those of you with 5 crappy games you want to get rid of to head over to GameStop or EBgames.
Knowing them they might adjust the system so it gives you 30% more ONLY if you are getting trade-in value and not cash.
But still, trade in is good if you want anything in store I guess.

Soul Calibur fishing was a hit.
Including the amazing artist Gagamann from the Dreamcast Junkyard.
I am pleased with the amount of laughter and chaos the video has created.
I am kinda surprised that some people thought the video was totally serious...
...if that was the case I should be locked up somewhere.
Other's seemed to think I was trying to make some direct comparison between the technology of the Dreamcast and the Wii...which the video was not really about either.
Anyways I can't wait to top that with my NEXT video.
And on top of that The DREAMCAST SUMMER GAMES 2007 is quickly approaching. Please email or comment your ideas to me! Game challenges that take a short time only please. I do not want to make a challenge where you have to do a speed run of Shenmue or collect every item in Skies of Arcadia.
SUBMIT TO THE UNDEAD CONSOLE!!!!!!
A good day for finding retro consoles.
Well to start this story let me tell you that my old SNES had finally had it. I literally torn the thing apart to see if I could fix it to no avail. ...

-A quick point. Melting a disposable clear hard plastic bic pen DOES work to open the screws in a SNES. AS LONG AS YOU ARE CAREFUL!
-Just take apart the pen and heat the end of the pen shaft and jam it into the hole. Let it sit for a bit then pull it out. The end will have melted around the screw and made a cheap screwdriver that will take out the outside casing screws. It will only last for about 2 of the screws though. Then you will have to do it again. Be careful with dropping melted plastic! You ony need to HEAT the pen, NOT set it a-flame. Better than trying to find one of those crazy screwdrivers though. This CAN hurt the outside of your SNES, discolor it and destroy it's value. I recommend you ONLY do this if the SNES is completely shot and you do not care about burn marks or breaking it more than it already is broke.
Any-who... even though I took the entire damn thing apart I could find no error. This made me sad.
However I was hopeful when I went inside a consignment shop and saw they had one for sale, AND a 16 bit Megadrive WITH Sega CD!!!! Joy to the whole friggen' world!!!

Then I saw it...
...IT...
The one thing that is on almost EVERY Retro gamers top ten list...
The OFFICIAL top loading NES version 2 (or 101).

This beauty is the wish of every person who owns one of the original NES systems that cannot read carts correctly anymore. Using cutting edge SMS technology this slimmed down beauty plays any NES game with ease.
Honestly the rarity of this item made equal with the awesomeness of the Sega CD. The Sega CD is Retro, but this item is Retro AND rare. A treat.
So there you have it. With Trade-ins of a PSone and a N64 I paid $10 for each of these consoles.
A SNES a NES 2 and a Megadrive with Sega CD. All with controllers and two controllers each. (found out later that one SNES controller is broke) All for $30.00...
I tell you it pays to make contacts with people. And to know which shopkeepers doesn't know what video game consoles are really worth. I must have visited that store about 25 times in about 7 months without finding much. To get such a deal is greatness.
The NES is still not as cool as the Dreamcast though...at this point it may be on my top ten list of cool stuff I own but it is not on the top of that list yet.

Another cool looking Japanese game.
This one looks like a horror RPG type game. And a chick snorts a slug up her nose... Holy crap, why wasn't this released in the US? deSPIRIA.
Salvation Army Score!
-Doom 2 in Box (Or so I thought)
-A N64 controller looking MINT
-PSone cable.
-Harry potter 3 gamecube game (I only got this because it was cheap and it had GBA functions)
And I was looking around and I saw this crappy looking Game Boy case covered in Yugi-O stickers. I picked it up thinking that perhaps it had a crappy original Game boy or beat up Game boy color in it. Instead I found a Game Boy Advance in good condition with a little NKYO light attachment. It was missing the back battery plate (so EBa nd Gamestop would not take it back) So I grabbed that for $4.
Now the only bad thing about all this was when I double checked the Doom 2 Box. It had a Tandy game in it, a small book of fine art and a classic music double CD featuring about 140 classic songs from Mozart and such. I already have a copy of Doom 2 (ultimate doom collection) so it wasn't that bad. I still got the box and original instruction booklet. Now before you ask, yes, I usually check and double check stuff before I buy it. However this time I thought that the box was heavy and had extra games and stuff in it. I was under the watchful eye of the register person and I didn't want to be accused of stuffing the box full of extra CDs and stuff. If I would have opened the box I am sure that the register person would have taken the extra stuff out and made me pay separate for it. So I rolled the dice and didn't open the box. My mistake. Stupid mistake.
Why the hell would someone give away a Doom 2 box with all this random stuff in it? I dunno. No big loss. I only really wanted the box and manual anyways. And now I have a nifty little table book filled with fine art and two CDs full of classical music to listen to while I play Doom 2.
You shouldn't rule out Salvation Army Stores and other such places when you are looking for video game stuff. Now that all the morons are getting rid of their old consoles in favor of new ones it's a good time to look around.
Muahahahha! New webcomic featuring the Dreamcast logo
It's on the back window of the Van in panel 5.
http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=994
One of the characters, the guy with the glasses in the background of the last frame, is an Black Ops agent for Sega. So it must be his van.
Even if Sega stops making consoles you can STILL see the impact the console has today...
ALL Hail the Undead Console!

Soul Calibur fishing.

For example an Englishman by the name o' Gagamann did a cool video once showing how to use the Dreamcast fishing controller to play Soul Calibur.

...However I decided to do an update on that and show how the "American Dreamcaster" Caleb does it.
SoulCalibur-Fishing
Uploaded by Blandco
In reality the first time I played using the fishing controller I rocked. I was doing throws and getting perfects.
Of course when I tried with the camera rolling I wasn't nearly as awesome.
Still, you get the idea.

What's wrong with disk swapping?
No, really. Why the hell would you risk your Dreamcast when you can get the same results from a simple disk swap?
Sheeze...some people.
Still some of you that are handy with a soldering iron might like this.

Selling some of my stuff.
I need some money so I am selling some of my extra stuff. After careful consideration I decided to post some of that stuff here.
Sorry to everyone who actually reads this blog for content. I will do better next week.
All prices INCLUDE shipping. If you want to throw in a buck to help out on mailing then thats up to you (If you live outside of the US throw in extra or wait for a month, your choice). I would prefer postal money orders as payment. I do NOT have a paypal account.
If you have any problems with the items not working I am selling I will refund your money or send you a replacement.
All these items were bought used so they are not in mint condition. Please email
Dreamcastguy @ hotmail.com to get my mailing address and tell me what you are interested in. First come first serve.
Thanks.
$25 - A Dreamcast with power cord, AV cord, two standard controllers and a VMU. In good condition but not mint.
$10 - Soul Calibur This disk is not in the best condition but I have never had trouble playing any of the levels and never had any skips. Manual and case included.
$7- Sonic Adventure. Disk is not in perfect condition but I have never had any problems playing the game. No Manual. No front cover.
$7 - House of the Dead 2. No manual. In clear CD case. This was a rental game so it's alittle beat up but I have never had any problems playing it.

The Undead Console has been insulted!
http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/gametrailers-bait-fanboys-list-top-ten-consoles-253528.php
Number 10 slot of of TEN? WTF? They put the N64 ahead of the DREAMCAST...
It's interesting to note that they included ALL of the Nintendo products except the Wii, DS and Virtual Boy. Thats 5! 5 slots filled with Nintendo out of 10? (and they even talked about nintendo during the PS1 slot) Hmm...
Don't get me wrong here. I have Nintendo products (None that I paid full price for except RE4) but come ON...putting N64 (which should have been 10th) in FRONT of Dreamcast???? DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE SOULS?
Trust me, some asswipe knew that REAL gamers would kick his stupid face in if the Dreamcast was left out...but the 10th spot????
An INSULT to the undead console!
The correct listing would have been the Dreamcast at the number one slot followed by the Dreamcast in second place closely followed by the Dreamcast in third and so on...

Dreamcast Summer games '07 announced

This is the official announcement of the Dreamcast Summer Games for the 2007 season!
This will be an open web challenge for the first week in July. You will have to try to complete whatever challenge you want to the best of your ability in that week and email your results to me within that time period as well. Hopefully Dreamcast fans that want to compete will have at least one of the games the challenges will be based on.
Basically these challenges will be on the Dreamcast console ONLY. NO PC EMULATORS.
They will be based on certain games under certain rules...
For example :
For first of the House of the Dead 2 challenges you play a normal mode game and only chose 3 health and no continues in the options. At the screen of your death (or if you win the game -good luck with that-). You will see your total time and score. Write that down as well as where and how you got your game ended. Remember no continues. No second player. No pauses. No dual lightguns.
You must also write down your name, country, age and hardware that you used to play the game. i.e.
Caleb
25
USA
NTSC Dreamcast - no mods.
Madcatz standard lightgun.
-no VMU
-rumble pack
Killed by a "Chainsaw Zombie" in the XXXX area.
XX minutes XX seconds
xxxx Score
Please note that heavily hardware modded dreamcasts, such as a dreamcast that is overclocked, cannot be entered into competition. Custom controllers and rare controllers will be under consideration.
This challenge will reply HEAVILY on the honor system. This contest is for fun with no prizes so players should have NO REASON to lie about or make up scores. Please note you might have to rely on pictures or video of gameplay if your entry into the contest is under question. Everyone has a good idea what is possible and what is unlikely in most Dreamcast games. Don't be lame.
You may have multiple attempts (up to three) on one challenge but again the honor system IS IN PLACE. If you spend hours trying to get a better score that is considered cheating.
Players may choose as many or as few challenges as they want.
I have a number of challenges to throw out there, but please add your suggestions to the comments of this blog.
Thank you and good luck in July.

The undead console strikes yet again!!!!!!
At least I think it's pronouced racketboy...I dunno.
This time he has listed some of the best values in DREAMCAST video games!!!
HERE LOOK HERE !!!!!
Those prices he listes ARE a bit steep for my taste...but then again I am a bit of a tightwad as some of you might have noticed...but if the disks are in good condition I probably would shell out that dough for the games he lists.
The games in his articles that I have not collected yet:
Chu Chu Rocket: $8
Test Drive LeMans: $5
Virtua Fighter 3tb: $9
Metropolis Street Racer: $9
Samba De Amigo: $16 -(a damn shame I know...)
Rayman 2: $11
F355 Challenge Passione Rossa: $11
Overall an excellent reminder that no matter HOW many games we collect there are always more treasures in the Dreamcast library to look forward to!!!!
I GOTS to get my Dreamcast on tonight after reading that article...
Gagaman called it...
Rez being played on a PC with a Wii controller...
...and it looks like awesome fun.

Rose McGowan loves the dreamcast...no really.
Apparently she liked to play House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast. The her dog peed on the Dreamcast and broke it... Fact or fiction? It makes a hell of story.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/hollywood/rose-mcgowans-dog-peed-on-her-dreamcast-250107.php
http://www.vh1gamebreak.com/2007/04/grindhouse_rose.html

I always knew there was a reason I liked Miss McGowan (Other than my desire to have many different types of sexual relations with her).
I salute you Miss McGowan (with various parts of my body)!
Your love for classic gaming on the Dreamcast (and your hotness) is an inspiration to us all!
Who will be next!!?!?!
Who will submit to the undead console!
Who will admit that the dreamcast is the greatest video game system of all time!
In time...everyone will.
