Despair and hope...

Yeah I am bummed out that the awesome looking copy of Dragon Force for the Saturn did not work. I have done everything to tryto make it work...

My computer can't even burn a playble copy so that means the disk is toasted.

Not too bad though since I CAN get my money back and get something else from the store I bought it from. Hmm. Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES (FF6 in Japan) comes to mind. That might be a good buy.

There was really nothing else there. I will ask to see if they happen to have another copy of Dragon Force lying around. It's such a dirtbag store.

If nothing else the whole Dragon Force thing made me modify my Saturn for the disk swap which is cool...

...but I still gotta go back there and the F'ING MORON wrote down "Sega CD" for the game. How the f'ing hell am I gonna return this item for a handwritten reciept that says the wrong thing. I hate it when people hire stupid people that don't know anything about video games to work in places that sell video games. There are just some jobs that require you to have something in your skull besides shit.

*wink* but guess what I found on their discount shelf for $1? FF7. Oh yeah. No case but still all the disks seem to boot and I loaded all my saves on the fist two disks. How out of freaking wack are these guys? They have WORTHLESS N64 games for like $20 but are selling stuff like FF7 for a buck? WTF?

Anywho I have also gotten some really good Dreamcast stuff from Gamestop...see the article about it on the Dreamcast Junkyard.

Oh man....

To say it was a tough week this week was such a goddamn understatement.

Brutal.

To top it off I had to get the car inspected and OF COURSE they found something wrong. They didn't charge me for installation or labor though because they forgot about my car and had me waiting for 2 and a half hours for a f'ing 10 minute job...and of course now I worry that they rushed that....I HATE MECHANICS. It's not my problem that I never got into that stuff or learned much more than the basics. Now I know alot I can fix most small car problems but shit man, cars today are TOO DAMNED complex. Yeah and it's not like I wasn't busy learning other stuff. I can fix most electrical thingies. Anyways I bet that damned secondary engine belt wasn't really cracked. I mean it might have had the general impression of "crackishness" when held a certain light. It's all a scam.

And my finaces got a bit screwed up as well... suckage.

Anyways I got some good Dreamcast stuff that I am gonna an article about in the Junkyard.

Ditto with some Saturn stuff. - Including a copy of Dragon Force which refuses to run! Gonna pull out all the stops on this one.

Yeah.

On the news today there was an odd story. There is a cat the predicts when people die...or he
KILLS people with his mental feline powers. Either way I don't want him to snuggle up to me.

Now this was survival horror!

I still have this game on my older PC.

DDR? Oh yeah.

I was shopping around the local thrift shop for electronics when I got a pretty damn good deal.

After looking at the bare electronics section (I found a copy of Flashback for the Genesis last week) I gave up and headed for the exit.

Then on a whim I walked over to the sports department. Strangely enough there were TWO Dance Dance Revolution pads (Multi-plug for PS2, Xbox and Gamecube) just sitting there. They were not first party though, one is Mad Catz, the other is Interact brand.

I have NO idea why they would put these in the sports dept. I suppose the people in charge of putting away stuff had no idea what they were.

Anyways there were no prices on them. Anyways I took them to the front of the store and when through my usual spiel in order to get the best price. Then I asked the woman how much and she said 4 dollars each. HOLY CRAP!

I looked in my wallet and realized I didn't have enough cash (and they don't take cards since they can't afford it. I asked the woman to hold them while I went to the bank.

So then she just says she will sell them for $2 each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Crap! These things do go for like $20 new! And these looked to be in excellent condition!

Anyways I took them home and found out they worked but was depressed when I found my copy of DDR Extreme 2 had somehow broke....lame. It warped somehow and I didn't remember if I ever tried it out after I had bought it. Sucks.

I got a copy of DDR Extreme from a store for $15. Gamestop sells it used for $34 so I felt that was a pretty good price.

Anyway, both pads seem to work fine with my PS2. The mad catz one feels better but both are pretty responsive.

Surprisingly as a snob retro gamer I really enjoyed playing this game. I sweat like a pig but the training sections worked well to teach you the basics of the game. Getting those perfects seemed easy at times if you get the rhythm right.

And for exercising this was way cooler than the fitness program for Eyetoy. (DDR Extreme uses eyetoy as well).

I also was in Blockbuster and found some decent PS2 games for sale. They are having a buy one get one free sale.

I got:

Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly

Shadow hearts

Dragongard 2

Ark the Lad

For the kickass total price of $24.

Fatal Frame 2 and Shadowrun are the real gems of this purchase. Both of these games go for $34.99 at Gamestop nowadays.

I only played Fatal Frame 2 for alittle bit but it seemed really surreal. Nice atmostsphere. For people that liked Silent Hill I suggest you get this.

Shadowhearts seems to be an interesting RPG I have never heard of before. It's one of those many PS2 games that most people gave a pretty high rating 7.9 8.0 ect while other rabid fans proclaimed it "teh best game eva". Worth the purchase price since Gamestop sells used copies for so much money (34.99 WTF?) I like the spin of having an RPG set in old school 1900 with old trains and WW1 rifles yet at the same time having demons with sickles cutting the shit outta everyone.

Drakengard 2 seems fun and Arc the Lad seems OK as well.

And for Retro news I got some decent Genesis games Flashback, Phantasy Star 2 and Vectorman (Vectorman is unopened in box!!!!!).

I also got another copy of Capcom VS SNK and Plasma Sword for my Dreamcast.

Overall an excellent month.

However that guy who was selling the Dreamcast lightguns that look like actual guns has not gotten back to me yet. He was selling games like Shining Force CD for like $5 (sells on ebay of over $80) He had sold out of most of his stuff. I hope I get those lightguns....

SNL remakes.

I was looking up clips from the Lonely Island guys; Akiva , Jorm and Andy Samberg from Saturday Night Live and "Hot Rod" fame when I saw something that pissed me off.

People on Youtube take ideas from the show and remake them. Over and over again.

They take the idea AND DON'T EVEN CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

They basically just re-shoot it or just do some basic editing on it using clips from other shows.

Where was I when everyone got so fucking lame?

My college TV show was never very popular but it had it's fans because it was VERY original.

We were doing cool little skits (and I continue to do cool little skits) based on our own ideas.

How the hell can anyone justify ripping someone else's ideas and call it a parody?

The worst example is the SNL skit where they make fun of the TV show The OC. People remade that skit and called it a parody...

...You can't do a word for word parody of a parody...

IT'S NOT A PARODY IT'S JUST BEING LAME AND STEALING SOMEONE ELSE'S IDEAS AND PUTTING YOUR NAME ON IT!

...sigh...

And there are HUNDREDS of these. I dunno I guess with the ease of digital media will come an increased amount of lame people stealing shit and calling it original. And nobody calls them on it. I would rather watch a halfway funny ORIGINAL IDEA than watch re-hash after re-hash.

We really need to get a truly original skit comedy show out there to show people how funny skit comedy can really be...

That's why I feel bad that the Lonely Island guys never were able to do their own show.

I gots no internets.

I hate this.

My computer meets the requirements for Bioshock. My cool ass video card actually goes past the min requirements.

However, I can't play the game.

Why?

The same reason why I can't play Half Life 2 (even though I loved that series) I have no internet at home. Both Bioshock and Half Life 2 require you to register them online.

During my grad studies getting my MLS I learned a bit more about the digital divide and how the "haves" and the "have nots" gap is being widened by technology.

But thats such BS in this case. There is NO REASON for games to require you to go online to register.

I have Internet access at work. I CAN'T get internet access at my home. Not anything that I could afford anyway or even work correctly since I live in the sticks.

DO game companies think that EVERY gamer has internet access for SP games?

It's such bullshit.

Instead of improving the tech and make it so people can't copy games they make gamers jump through hoops to play.

Not to mention the fact that if they make good quality games enough people will want to buy the ACTUAL game instead of using a crappy copy!

I know that game producers need to save money and all but to asssume that all PC gamers have internet access is utter BS.

If I can't be sure that I can install a game why the hell would I waste my money on it?

There are ALOT of people like me out there who just can't use internet at home for various reasons. If the PC game corporations want to ignore us to save alittle money in the short run I think they are gonna loose alot of business to consoles.

The video that did not make it on to the Junkyard.

So normally I am somewhat confident in my videos. However, my collection video just plain sucked. I was sick as a dog when I shot it (as evidenced in the crappy camerawork and the last bit when I am sitting down in the chair looking half dead).

The final "product" was too long, too dark, lacked the snappy editing I like and was just horrible. It was in no way redeemable in my eyes. I could have re-edited but the raw material was just too crappy.

I am gonna post it here but I really need to get more quality stuff in if I want to get any videos on the Junkyard.

Seven Mansions

Someone uploaded videos of the Japan only Dreamcast game "Seven Mansions"

I guess it shows that the game can be subtitled in English. It looks pretty cool. I would rather have Segagaga translated though. There is a team working on that one.

Intro to the Game:

Video that seems to show translation:

Dreamcast 2 in 2009.

Kotaku mentioned that Sega might be making the long awaited Dreamcast 2 announcement at E3 2007.

"Dreamcast II with 3D glasses and R.O.B. support for a 2009 release?"

http://kotaku.com/gaming/always-bet-on-black/the-e3-2007-kotaku-fantasy-betting-pool-275056.php

I am sure the 3D glasses thing was just a joke. But it's out there now in writing. There WILL be a Dreamcast 2!

Boy I can't wait for the 2009!

Good enough for the Junkyard?

This dude made a pretty cool video featuring his fav. Dreamcast games set to different music.

I didn't agree with his choices but overall the concept was cool.

Is this something that is good enough for the Dreamcast Junkyard?

Dreamcast Summer Games still somewhat alive!

So it seems like nobody could get behind the idea of the Dreamcast Games. Hardly anyone wanted to give simple ideas, rather they pestered me for insane ideas and some even asked I upload illegal copies for them to play (not gonna happen). Plus I got a really good second job in real life and have been working like a dog 60+ hours a week.

However I will still take scores on pretty much ANYTHING and post them here...

Anyways here are a few ideas to try out!

-Best progression in a game with only 1 life no continues. (HoD2, Soul Calibur ect.)

-Best item gained by in PSO with a new character for 30 mins of play. (Offline mode ONLY).

-Most creative use of a controller in game. (Use of fishing rod, wheel ect.)

-Most creative use of a non-working Dreamcast or accessory.

-Highest score on hardest difficulty level. (Duh.)

-Fastest timed round gameplay (any)

-Furthest progression in Survial Horror Genre game only using basic melee weapon (i.e. knife in RE series) and NO HEALING items.

I still will take your unique ideas though and post them here! Maybe someone will want to challenge you before the week is over.

Please comment here or email your scores to dreamcastguy@hotmail.com

Whoot!

SEGA Game Gear is PSAs

I need to blog about this stuff when I see it.

I saw a PSA featuring characters from Shrek telling a kid who was playing a Game Gear to go outside and play...

I saw this 2 MONTHS ago. I never blogged it because I was lazy.

Then Kotaku runs an article about this last Monday.

I guess when you see this stuff you had better blog it right then and there...

Anyways I guess they couldn't use a current handheld game console since Shrek has games on all those. And they couldn't use an old Gameboy since Nintendo is supporting the new Shrek games...

Anways that kid was probably having a great time with that Game Gear. It's too bad that video games don't really make kids violent...then he could beat the shit outta that stupid computer animated donkey.
